First Look at the Great 2004 Vintage

Image - Victorian collection "In 2002 and 2003 we produced some excellent wines in challenging vintages due to careful vineyard management and fruit selection. In 2004 the ideal conditions allowed us to make exactly the wines we wanted to make, I am confident that the 2004 red wines represent a clear step up for Seppelt." Arthur O'Connor - Seppelt Winemaker.

The 2004 Seppelt Victorian Shiraz just shows what a truly great vintage 2004 was, and how well the wines are developing, whetting our appetite for the soon to be released Regional Range, and St. Peters in September.

The Seppelt Victorian Range is sourced from Central and Western Victoria with components from other premium Victorian regions depending on vintage conditions. The range represents a contemporary interpretation of classic wine styles with ripe, expressive flavours and fine tannins balanced by the essential elegance of Victorian wines.

The 2004 Seppelt Victorian Shiraz is sourced Central and Western Victoria with fruit predominantly from the Grampians and the Pyrenees, with components from Strathbogie and Bendigo. The 2004 vintage was outstanding, going from strength to strength with good winter rainfall promoting good growth and a long, warm ripening season producing wines of elegance and intensity. These ideal conditions produced perfectly ripe fruit while avoiding any cooked or over-ripe flavours. The resulting wines are beautifully concentrated - a memorable vintage.

Made by Seppelt Winemaker Arthur O'Connor, the Shiraz was aged for one year in one, two and three year old French barriques, and shows lifted pepper and dark berry aromas with a touch of oak spice. The palate brims with dark berry and spice and shows excellent depth of flavour, finishing with fine long tannins. As with previous vintages of the Seppelt Victorian Shiraz, the wine is juicy and seductive now, but will continue to develop great complexity with careful cellaring.

Look out for this newly released wine at fine wine retailers or contact the Seppelt Cellar Doors for more information.
