Silverband Wines

Silverband winesIn June of this year Seppelt unveiled the new Silverband Wines, sourced entirely from the Grampians region. The wines, a Shiraz table wine and a non-vintage sparkling Shiraz, are named after the picturesque Silverband waterfalls, and display the unique Grampians' terroir as well as the distinctive cool climate Shiraz fruit.

Emma Wood, Seppelt Senior Winemaker, is very excited about the potential of the Grampians region saying the new wines, "embrace the distinctive style of the Grampians and demonstrate the affinity between this region and Shiraz."

The Non-Vintage Seppelt Silverband Sparkling Shiraz is composed of select tirage wine parcels with an average age of six years. These parcels were initially trial lots, carefully selected by the winemakers for their ability to age gracefully and develop intense varietal and regional characters. Once these parcels were chosen, they were blended to create the unique and delightful Silverband Sparkling Shiraz.

This careful blending has produced a wine that shows a well-integrated balance of complex, mature components, married with fresh, vibrant, youthful parcels. "The result is a classic, non-vintage sparkling wine with excellent savoury bottle age characters," says Emma.

Writing in The Weekend Australian (28 July 2007), Max Allen described the wine as, "an absolute cracker: all ripe, soft wild berry fruit and classic, complex forest-floor overtones of sweet mushrooms and damp soil."

The other wine in the range, the 2005 Seppelt Silverband Grampians Shiraz is a wine that shows true depth of flavour of Grampians' Shiraz, balancing elegance and intensity in a way that sets this wine apart from Victoria's heavier, warm climate styles.

Ralph Kyte-Powell in his Epicure column in the Age (4 September 2007) praised the "lovely ripe aromas of berries and spice, a meaty thread and a whisper of vanilla. The velvety, concentrated palate has succulent fruit character with fine tannins in the background."

Philip Rich MW wrote of the Seppelt Wine Cool Climate Triumphs in the AFR magazine saying that the newly introduced Shiraz was right in the mould of a Grampians wine style with its core of dark fruits, some cracked pepper and spice and fine tannins.

Both of these wines are drinking beautifully now and make the perfect celebratory tipple for your Spring Racing winnings.

If you would like to try these wines, they are available at selected restaurants and fine wine retailers. You can also enter our fantastic Christmas competition to be in with a chance of winning one of 50 bottles of the delicious Seppelt Silverband Sparkling Shiraz.
