Overview

Overview

Seppelt is one of the pioneers of Australian Sparking Wine, producing its first vintage in the 1890s under the stewardship of Hans Irvine and Frenchman Charles Pierlot. An enduring dedication to sparkling excellence has been passed down by generations of winemaking greats for over 125 years, ensuring that the current range of sparkling wines both reflect the best of old traditions and modern innovations.

Produced using the traditional method of sparkling production, individual components of pristine Henty fruit were fermented separately before being blended to form the base wine. Seppelt Salinger is bottle-fermented and matured for a minimum of three years on less before disgorging, and is a sparkling wine with great elegance and finesse.

Tyson Stelzer

"With an additional year on lees (now more than 36 months) my sparkling wine of the year under $30 last year is now even more complex and more textured... the lees character is now the focus, supporting lemon and red apple fruit, with almond meal and toast prominent, structured with the mouth feel of lees texture. It finishes with great persistence, sustained by the graceful, enduring acid line of Henty. There’s an enormous amount of integrity and class wound up in this cuvée, rejoicing in Carnaby’s bold return to the style that brought this label to fame way back in 1983."

Nose

The nose shows citrus and green apple aromas with brioche and nutty characters derived from ageing on lees.

Flavours and Palate

The palate combines delicate citrus fruits with toasted brioche and creamy lees characters supported by a fine mineral acid structure. This produces an elegant, balanced wine with great length.

Viticulture Vintage & Winemaking

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

After a wet winter in 2012, the spring leading into 2013 was relatively cool and then blossomed into a sunny and warm summer which continued well into March. Summer temperatures were only slightly above average, but the sunshine hours were truly atypical. The vines progressed steadily through the season but ripened rapidly, spurred on by the sunshine hours.

36 months in bottle on secondary fermentation lees before disgorgement in the Méthode Traditionelle.

Adam Carnaby - Seppelt Winemaker

As a Hospitality Manager at Melbourne’s Hilton Hotel, Adam’s affinity for the wine industry became so apparent that he enrolled in a Bachelor of Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University, graduating in 2003. In 2001 he was appointed Assistant Winemaker at Yering Station in the Yarra Valley where he remained for five years, gaining vintage experience in Burgundy in-between. Then in 2007 he moved to Margaret River to be a Winemaker at Xanadu Wines for a further five years. These days Adam proudly dons two winemaking hats, creating outstanding cool climate wines from across Victoria: in 2011 he commenced as Seppelt Winemaker and in 2016 added the responsibilities of being Winemaker for T’Gallant. He relishes the challenge of being in charge of two great Australian wine producers – Seppelt with its 165 year history and focus on cool climate sparkling, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Riesling from the Grampians, Heathcote and Henty regions; and the more eccentric T’Gallant, pioneers of Pinot Grigio and Gris in Australia based in the Mornington Peninsula.
