Jeni Port

"The preference for the moniker, Traminer, is a reflection of the producer’s history when Seppelt “Traminer” was killing it on the top selling charts in the 1970s. The name was deemed easier to pronounce – and, hence, sell – than Gewürztraminer. When the grape lost consumers, the Drumborg vines were scrubbed but in 2011, with new Alsatian clones and a renewed passion, grapes were re-planted. Here, Gewürztraminer returns with renewed purpose exploring a wonderful world of spice with aromas of acacia, ginger, tarragon, potpourri. Reaches into its rich varietal heritage and effortlessly brings a warm texture to the palate – definitely not oiliness! – which acts as a basis to explore fresh lychee, snow pea, citrus and tarragon flavours. That spice is so enticing. 93 Points."

Ray Jordan

"Well, well well. Who remembers Traminer in the 70s and 80s? It was a big deal but then lost favour. Seppelt decided in 2011 to replant it and it was decided that 2023 would be the perfect time to reintroduce it. This cooler site is perfect for creating a finer and quite delicate style devoid of the excessive phenolic edginess that can mar it in some sites. Delightfully fragrant with a typical Turkish Delight aroma and traces of musk and lemon zest. Some time on lees along with the natural acidity offsets neatly the subtle slightly sweet middle palate. Excellent wine. Give it a go. 93 Points."

Nose

A fragrant melange of fresh lychee, rose petal and pear.

Flavours and Palate

Flavoursome Turkish delight, musk and mangosteen are balanced by crisp nashi pear and a wet stone, textural finish. The crisp, dry finish balances the slight natural residual sweetness of the mid palate. This all works together to accentuate the flavour and perfectly balance the Drumborg Vineyard acidity.

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

A very wet winter coupled with a consistently wet and cold spring. This delayed flowering and resulted in poor fruit set. A cool and humid ripening period with above average rain days further complicated final picking. In all it was a low yielding and tricky year in Drumborg but this vineyard displays its pedigree in the final wine which is of excellent quality.
