Overview

Overview

Since the 1890s, Seppelt has enjoyed a distinguished history of producing Sparkling Shiraz and is a global pioneer of the uniquely Australian wine style. Although there are no precise records, Charles Pierlot from Hans Irvine’s Cellars (known as Seppelt since 1918) experimented with making some of Australia’s first ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ wines, as they were known, in 1892. 125+ years later, this legacy continues, and today Seppelt enjoys a reputation for producing the world’s finest expressions.

Sourced from select vineyards throughout Victoria, Seppelt original Sparkling Shiraz is a superbly balanced wine with vibrant, spicy shiraz fruit and a fine, creamy mousse. Serve chilled.

Tyson Stelzer

"The perennial go-to for affordable sparkling shiraz, Original captures the black pepper, satsuma plum and black cherry elegance of Victoria and supports it with masterfully handled, finely structured tannins, beautifully integrated dark chocolate oak and well-gauged dosage. It concludes bright, long, creamy and joyous. Now a non-vintage blend and oaked for the first time, never has Original upheld the effortless calm and spicy black fruit integrity of the house with more finesse... Bravo."

Huon Hooke

"Full red colour with a purple tinge. The aroma is full of raspberry and red cherry with hints of dried herbs and eucalypt 'forest floor'. The wine is plenty sweet and rounded, soft and easy-drinking, with mild tannins and good length. The aftertaste is nicely balanced."

Jeni Port

"Original refers to the traditional style of sparkling shiraz which has enjoyed huge success with a marked degree of sweetness and oak. This comes across not quite as sweet as in the past, allowing the fruits to come to the fore: raspberry, black cherry, cassis with violet and spice. Oak, too, is in the background on the palate in the form of woodsy spice. Impressive and with a story to tell, this is like drinking history "

Victoria

Australia’s second smallest state is home to more regions and wineries than any other. A mix of cool and warm regions means variety is the spice of life in Victoria – from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula, to rich Shiraz from Heathcote and the Grampians and world famous fortified wines from Rutherglen, it’s a paradise for wine lovers.

A blend of several vintages to add more complexity and depth and to produce a more consistent style every year with less influence from vintage variation.

Vinified on skins in a combination of static and open-top fermenters followed by maturation in 70% stainless steel and 30% seasoned French oak for 12 months prior to secondary fermentation.
