Overview

Overview

Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt and swept by icy Winds from the Southern Ocean, it is one of the Southern-most vineyards of mainland Australia. This wine forms part of Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard Range, sourced from the mature, cool-climate Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard in South-West Victoria’s Henty Region.

Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard Henty Chardonnay is an expression of purity and balance. Select parcels of Chardonnay are chosen for their intensity of flavor and mineral acid structure. Traditional winemaking techniques are used, including fermentation in large format French oak followed by maturation on less.

95 Points Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

Ray Jordan

"Winemaker Clare Dry has exerted quite an influence on this wine since taking over in 2021. The intention is to make a wine that strongly reflects the Drumborg Vineyard. It was 100% whole bunch pressed and fermented on full solids in barriques of which 30% was new. Full malolactic was used to balance the high natural acidity. I love the purity and energy in its core and how the textural influences have been created in the winery. At the same time, it never loses that essential Drumborg linear thread that carries through to a lingering finish. 95 Points."

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Fragrant white nectarine and Meyer lemon peel layers beautifully with savoury notes of toasted curry leaf, nougat and a flinty mineral finish.

Flavours and Palate

The essence of powerful purity; a salivating mineral sea-salt line of acid is balanced by lemon zest and white nectarine. The palate is flavoursome and very even with seamlessly integrated oak and a creamy, generous mouthfeel with notes of macadamia and nougat and a slatey, textural finish. This wine will take many years to unwine the potential.

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

A very wet winter coupled with a consistently wet and cold spring. This delayed flowering and resulted in poor fruit set conditions. A cool and humid ripening period with above average rain days further complicated final picking. In all it was low yielding and trick year a Drumborg but this vineyard displays its pedigree in the final wine which is of excellent quality.
