Overview

Overview

Sourced from the mature, cool climate Drumborg Vineyard in south west Victoria’s Henty region, our Pinot Noir is part of Seppelt’s iconic Drumborg vineyard range. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt, the Drumborg vineyard is renowned for its cool climate, single vineyard wines which are a reflection of the beauty and purity of this isolated site.

Seppelt Drumborg Pinot Noir is made using traditional winemaking techniques which includes a small amount of whole bunch ferment and maturation in French oak barriques. The Seppelt philosophy is simple; to produce exceptional wines reflective of the personality, purity and terroir of our vineyards and regions.

Jeni Port

"The Henty wine region is cool, super cool in more ways than the obvious one, a place where cool climate varieties like Pinot Noir excel. Hard to not be impressed by this wild scented, red hearted, herbal infused Pinot. Effortless meeting of black cherry, pomegranate and red fruit aromas, spice and an alluring thread of dried herbs. Medium bodied, elegant and composed with a firm core of gently savoury and plentiful tannins. Bright, cool climate acidity brings freshness. This is very much an individual style, fruit laden – and what gorgeous fruit – with oak playing a barely-there supporting role against a background of intriguing herbs and spices. 96 Points."

Ray Jordan

"The Drumborg vineyard can be a tricky proposition for Pinot Noir and in 2022 the season conspired against it, so none was made. This year, too, had its challenges but the result is impressive. It’s in the red fruit zone with bright cherry aromas combining with deeper damp earthy notes. There’s a distinct minerally line that runs the gauntlet of fine chalky tannins and fine-grained integrated oak. As with the Chardonnay it makes a statement about the site. 95 Points."

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Enticing bramble notes are layered with cherry fruit and a touch of mineral gun flint.

Flavours and Palate

Juicy strawberry, red-cherry and pomegranate notes create an even and plush palate. The firm but fine-grained cherry stone tannins contribute to produce a long and persistent finish. Notes of struck match and mineral flint add complex layers while the subtle, well-integrated oak adds structure, persistence and closes out the power of this wine with restrained delicacy.

Viticulture Vintage & Winemaking

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

A wet winter and spring was followed by coolish summer conditions. Lower than average yields combined with a generally mild and humid ripening period led to fruit of good quality on the finer, delicate spectrum.
