Overview

Overview

Established in 1851, Seppelt is one of Australia’s most historic wine producers, renowned for its pioneering role in crafting the uniquely Australian Sparkling Shiraz. Today, Seppelt continues to shape the landscape of cool-climate winemaking, producing expressive table wines from distinctive vineyards across the Grampians, Henty, and Heathcote regions.

Among these, the Drumborg Vineyard in south-west Victoria stands apart. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt, this isolated, cool-climate site in the Henty hinterland is celebrated for its purity, elegance, and resilience. The vineyard’s mature vines and maritime influence yield Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse—delicate yet structured, with vibrant fruit and a clear sense of place.

Seppelt’s Drumborg Pinot Noir is a true reflection of its origin—refined, expressive, and enduring.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Layers of sweet red fruit, bramble and dried porcini mushroom and a hint of cordite.

Flavours and Palate

Very even with plush, mouth filling cherry stone, pomegranate and juicy redcurrant fruit. The mid palate is textural and complex with gunflint, struck match and fine grained, velvety tannins. Well-integrated, subtle oak adds structure and flow and the wine finishes with a persistent, yet restrained delicacy and power.

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

A wet Drumborg winter coupled with a consistently wet and cold spring delayed flowering and resulted in poor fruit set across the vineyard. However, the growing season was unseasonably warm and dry allowing for careful selection of the fruit picking windows without the omnipresent pressure of rain. The resulting wine is of excellent quality showcasing fruit and tannin intensity.
