During 160 years of winemaking, Seppelt has built a reputation of innovation and unswerving dedication to quality. The Seppelt philosophy involves harnessing the strengths of each viticultural region to create varietally and regionally expressive wines of great character.
This world first and uniquely Australian style was championed by Hans Irvine in the 1890s and is only released in exceptional vintages, most recently the 1994 vintage in 2004.
With nine years bottle age, the 2004 Seppelt Show Sparkling Shiraz is prime for release today and perfect for collections or celebrations.
"… great colour, and is stacked with blackberry, spice and chocolate flavours – precisely those that the '61 showed."
- James Halliday, 96 points, The Weekend Australian Magazine, 20 July 2013
"The most prestigious sparkling red in the world… Its complexity announces itself like a flying red flag… Has decades ahead of it, particularly under crown seal. The dryness of the finish is compelling. Thoroughly modern and yet thoroughly traditional… "
- Campbell Mattinson, 96 points, The Wine Front, 18 June 2013
"Wonderful complexity of licorice, pepper and clove spiciness with old leather and aged shiraz characters. The palate has great depth with seamless texure and gentle tannins. Sweetness slides into a clean, dry finish. A classic in the making."
- Huon Hooke, 95 points, Gourment Traveller Wines, 1 November 2013
“This is the ultimate expression of Great Western Shiraz - peppery, spicy, soft and fruity. Its incredible character is unique, without heavy tannins, ensuring it will age elegantly. It is floral and full-bodied with fantastic longevity and carried by fine bubbles. The lively mousse yields to concentrated blackberry and chocolate flavours combined with sweet spices, and fine, mature tannins. This wine has reached the right complexity, balance with a freshness and fruit vibrancy. Enjoy now or allow to age for another 30 to 50 years.”
- Adam Carnaby, Seppelt Senior Winemaker
"No other wine resembles this sparkling Shiraz-based wine made in the tradition... They are beautiful examples of the winemaker's art which have stood the test of time… It's one of those unique wines to Australia.”
- Ian McKenzie, Seppelt Winemaker, 1983-2001
